The Video Mapping Festival is back for a 4th edition at the Arenberg Mine Site, with 6 new creations to discover over 2 evenings!
Monumental, immersive and object video mapping… Take a nocturnal stroll through the heart of this historic site, following an original tour conceived by regional and international mapping artists.
For the occasion, enjoy a premiere of an immersive mapping in the Espace Berri that traces the evolution of the Arenberg Mine Site, marked by industrial activity, while celebrating nature through the story of the Mare à Goriaux, born of the consequences of mining on the site.
The immersive video mapping will be on show from 1st of June to 24th of August (Thursdays and Fridays from 10 am to 12:30 pm and from 1:30 pm to 5 pm; Saturdays from 2 pm to 6:30 pm and from 7:30 pm to 10 pm; Sundays from 10 am to 12:30 pm and from 1:30 pm to 6 pm). Forecourt – Sculpture
► JANUA
Or the opening of doors to the soul. In many tribal cultures, paintings and masks reflect the evolution of the being within its community. And when shamanic rituals are performed, the spirit becomes clouded and lets its most primitive states escape, the very ones that sooner or later bring it back to the starting point.
Direction and animation: Rémi Soyez
Plastician artist: Fred Martin
Original music: Malik Djouad

Transformer Facade
► Oniroscope
A sandman awakens at dusk to protect the world of dreams from the many nightmares that threaten it.
Direction: Alicia Monnot
Animation: Young professionals on the “Video Mapping Careers” employment support programme
Original music: Géraldine Kwik

Wellhead’s Facade no. 2
► Fast pace
To the rhythm of the sounds, the facade is transformed. The geometric shapes echo the underground galleries of a mine.
Direction and animation: Shih-yen Huang
Original music: Thibault Cohade

Revenue building Facade
► The Breath of Arenberg
From the burning bowels of the earth to the new beats of a reinvented place, The Breath of Arenberg is a sensory journey between memory and rebirth.
In the seeping gloom of the galleries, the roar of machines, the sweat of men, the dust of labour: everything bears the scars of a heavy and vibrant past. Then, little by little, the light cracks the walls. Nature seeps in, breathing again. The blackened stones become screens for a reinvented future, and the walls resonate with creative echoes. Arenberg doesn’t disappear, it transforms. This mapping is a tribute to metamorphosis: the metamorphosis of a place that, without denying its past, is inventing a new life for itself.
Direction: Mrs June

Salle des Pendus – Micro mapping
► Les Charbonettes
History has failed to acknowledge the participation of women in mining activities, making it almost unknown to most people that women where also part of the harsh reality of mining activities during the last centuries. Les Charbonettes, is an homage, an altar of recognition, to the forgotten women that worked and gave their lives along their male counterparts.
Direction and animation: Daniela Pinto
Original music: Erick Bejarano

Espace Berri – Immersive video mapping
► The Birth of Mare à Goriaux
This immersive mapping takes viewers on a journey through the evolution of the territory along a timeline stretching from before 1900 to the present day. Combining 2D animation and 3D modelling, it highlights the transformation of the landscape and the resilience of nature, while underlining the collective responsibility for preserving the site. The visual journey begins and ends at night, symbolising the passage of time and the metamorphosis of the environment.
